Gluten-Free Flour Tortilla Recipe 👍
Is there such a thing? I was trying Ina Garten’s Steak Fajitas Recipe in her new cookbook, Modern Comfort Food and didn’t know what I should use as a substitute for the flour tortillas. I first checked my local Whole Foods Grocery Store and they didn’t offer gluten-free flour tortillas so I bought corn tortillas. My family and I loved the Steak Fajitas Recipe but the corn tortillas just didn’t jive with the flavors of the sauteed vegetables.
Several weeks later I made the recipe again (it was so good) but this time I bought a large jicama and was going to slice this up thinly and use as a flat tortilla. ( I got this idea from another taco recipe I tried from Gwenyth Paltrow’s Clean Plate). Then I came across a recipe for home made gluten-free flour tortillas and I just had to try it.
Now, I never made tortillas before, so this was a new experience and I was pleasantly surprised on how good they tasted! Since I haven’t had a flour tortilla in 8 or 9 years I wasn’t sure if they were really were that great or I just don’t remember how they tasted, so I had my husband and son try them and they said it tasted better than their store bought real flour tortillas! Bingo! We have a winner.
Now keep in mind this is not something you will want to do after working all day, but on the weekend when you have the time to make them you will be rewarded with something that truly tastes like the real thing! Enjoy!
